Courtesy visit to the Wife of the Governor of Imo State, Ugo – Nneoma Nkechi Okorocha (PHD) led by the Commissioner of Gender Affairs and Social Development and Her Gender Affairs Team on 20th February , 2018.

          The Commissioner of Gender Affairs and  her Gender Affairs Team  paid a courtesy visit to the wife of the  Governor of Imo State, Her Excellency, Ugo- Nneoma Nkechi Rochas Okorocha (PHD) in her office at Government House, Owerri on 20th February, 2018.
Speaking on the visit, The Wife of the Executive Governor of Imo State, Ugo- Nneoma Nkechi Okorocha  (PHD), the initiator of the Women of Divine Destiny Initiative (WODDI) and She Needs A Roof Project (SNARP), has described the Ministry Of Gender Affairs and Social Development, as a vital implementation Agency in the actualization of the policies and programmes of the Rescue Mission Administration in the state.
Ugo-Nneoma Nkechi Okorocha made this assertion when the management of the ministry led by the Hon. Commissioner, Barr. (Mrs) Ngozi Njoku, saying that His Excellency, Owelle  Rochas Okorocha changed the name, Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development to Ministry of Gender Affairs and Social Development in order to bring about the desired change as the ministry would now carry along the male folks in line with the programmes and policies of the administration which is a gender-friendly one.
                According to her, to achieve equality and fairness, which is the cardinal objectives of the Rescue Mission Administration, the Governor in his wisdom, decided to change the name and appointed Barr. Njoku to anchor it, knowing fully well that she has the ability to deliver.
                She appricated the calibre of the staff in the Ministry and expressed hope that they would achieve the desired goal in the spirit of team work.
                Earlier in her speech, Barr. Ngozi Njoku had told Her Excellency that the ministry had scheduled the courtesy call to acquaint Her Excellency, the wife of the Governor of the 2018 action plan of the Ministry  and to solicit her support and to introduce key officers of the ministry to her.
                Barr. Njoku reeled out the programmes of action of her Ministry for the year especially the on- coming International Women’s Day and requested that the government supports the ministry in  the usual manner it has been doing.
                Delivering a vote of thanks, the permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Barr. (Mrs) Alma Eluwa thanked Ugo- Nneoma for finding time to attend to them despite her tight schedule and assured the continued support of staff of the ministry towards the actualization His Excellency’s commitment towards achieving gender equity and equality.
                Highlight of the visit was the official handover of  the National Action Plan (NAP) for the implementation of UNSCR 1325 and Related Resolutions on Women, Peace and Security in Nigeria 2017- 2018 and the call to replicate such at the state and local government levels by Barr. (Mrs.) Ngozi Njoku.

Barr. Ngozi Njoku Celebrates Valentine With Inmates of Orlu Cheshire Home, Imo State

 

           In line with the Federal Ministry of  Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Barr. (Mrs) Ngozi Njoku, The Commissioner of Women Affairs which has been transformed to Ministry of Gender Affairs and Social Development by His Excellency, Anayo Rochas Okorocha, The Governor of Imo State. In one of the duties of the ministry, it is important that we the welfare of this home and rescue some children in line with the rescue mission and show them some love in this month love.
Valentine’s day is characterised  by showing of love and affection all over the world. The Hon. Commissioner of Gender Affairs and Social Development, Barr. (Mrs) Ngozi Njoku has demonstrated her love for the less privileged in the society by going to share with the inmates of the Orlu Cheshire home.
            Speaking on the event, Barr. Ngozi Njoku said her mission to the home was borne out of her love for the less privileged and down trodden in the society and most importantly, that Orlu Cheshire home is one of the home under the supervision of her Ministry.
            One of the Inmates of the home benefitted from Barr. Njoku’s registration for West African School Certificate Examination(WASCE), Master Kelechi Obiji described Barr. Njoku  as a quintessential mother and prayed that God should continue to bless her as she affect people’s positively .
            In his speech, Chairman of Board of Orlu Cheshire home, Eze (DR) F.N Eburuoh thanked Barrister Njoku for finding time and resources to come and share with the less privileged and prayed  God to meet her in own needs.
            Highlight of the  occasion was the release of cash for registration of Master Kelechi Obiji and Master Chiedozie Ikwunnanyere and the donation of wheel chairs and food items to inmates of the home.

A Brief Meeting With The Representatives Of The NGO's In Imo State

     The Honourable Commissioner of Ministry of Gender Affairs and Social Development, Barr. (Mrs) Ngozi Njoku and the Director of Women Affairs, Mrs Meg Obi, through its frame work with the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development had a brief meeting to draft out the various activities of NGO's and Orphanages.
      In the Meeting, The representatives of the some widows foundations were present in the meeting. Some of this foundations that take care of the widows are Rosita Unique Care Foundation, Kezzy Widows, Be-Well Deliverance Ministry Widows Outreach, etc. This meeting was aimed to present the issues concerning the Orphanages and homes/NGO's within the State.  In Honourable Commissioner Speech, She urge the representatives of the various home to come for another meeting to talk about the activities of the different home because the Ministry wants to partner and also planning to assist this various homes/NGO's to aid in the various activities and visit them from time to time to know the various locations of the homes. The Ministry of Gender Affairs through its frame work and connection with the Federal Ministry of the Women Affairs and Social Development is expected to give the reports of the various activities of various NGO's. According to the Honourable Commissioner, What we have on ground for which the meeting organized is for a bigger NGO that wants to organize a mega reach out and get-together in the State who have something for the Orphans and handicap Children.
      In conclusion, the meeting is to be re-scheduled to enable the various representative of the home can update the Ministry with the comprehensive data report , for instance, how many children do the home have to bring for the function, what are the age bracket and the locations of their various children to enable the Ministry make their plans for the forthcoming function.

COMMISSIONER FOR GENDER AFFAIRS AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT, BARR. NGOZI NJOKU , INAUGURATES STATE ACTION PLAN(SAP) COMMITTEE ON UNITED NATION'S SECURITY COUNCIL RESOULTION 1325.

In line with the directive of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, The Honourable Commissioner of Ministry of Gender Affairs and Social Development, Barr. (Mrs) Ngozi Njoku has inaugurated the State Action Plan Committee on United Nation's Security Council Resolution 1325.
        Inaugurating the Committee in her office, Barr. Njoku charged memebers of the committee to read and diseminate the information as contained in the documents handed over to them religiously. She discribed the documents as very important in dealings with gender matters.
        Barr. Ngozi Njoku expressed hope that with the calibre of people in the committee, it would yeield the desired results for which it was set.
         Earlier in her opening remarks, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Barr. (Mrs) Alma Eluwa said  the purpose of the gathering was to distribute the National Action Plan on Security Council Resoultions and to inaugurate the State Action Plan Committee and urged them not only to read, but to implement the dictates of the documents.
         In his Speech during the inaugural ceremony, the Commissioner of Ministry of Labour and PovertyAlleviation, who is also a member of the committee, Hon. Blessing Nwanmerenini described the event as one that would help our societyand pleaded with other memebers to take the programme serious.
         Speaking also at the occassion, Engr. Peter Ohagwa, in charge of the Bureau for Conflict Resolution said he was delighted to be a member of the Committe and underscored the importance of peaceful co-existence and charged women to be agents of peace advocacy even when their husbands are trouble mongers. He assured of his willingness to ensure sucess of the programme.
         In their different speeches, the State President of the National Council for Women Society(NCWS) and the Programme Manager, Alliance for Africa, Mrs Blessing Duru described the present administration in the as the only gender- friendly one and called for the drafting of the State Action Plan (SAP), Local Action Plan (LAP), Community Action Plan(CAP) and Family Action Plan (FAP) base on the pecularity nature of the groups mentioned.
         Highlight of the occassion was the formal inauguration of the State Action Plan (SAP) Committee and the distribution of the revised edition of NAP on UN Security Council Resolution 1325 by Barr. Ngozi Njoku.
